Description

Parthenocissus tricuspidata ‘Veitchii’ (Japanese creeper). This is also known as 'Ampelopsis veitchii'. A vigorous deciduous, woody-stemmed, tendril climber. Bears green leaves, which turn into a striking, purple-red colour in autumn with blue berries. Has insignificant green flowers.

Cultivation

This species will tolerate the dust, pollution and exhaust fumes of a city environment and will grow in a wide range of growing conditions but prefers moist, well drained soil in full sun or partial shade with protection from hot winds. It is very frost hardy.

Propagation

You can propagate from hardwood cuttings in late winter or early spring.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Scale insects and aphids may attack stems and shoots. Susceptible to honey fungus.
