Plant in a rich, well-drained soil in full sun and water regularly in summer. Prune congested or overgrown plants in spring and provide support. Fully frost hardy to frost tender, they are best suited to warm areas.
Propagate from seed or cuttings or by layering in summer. Also by division of established clumps.
Pests, diseases or disorders
This is a frost-tender Brazilian species with 3- lobed, 4 in (10 cm) long leaves and bright red or white flowers in 12 in (30 cm) long pendulous racemes. The outer filaments are white with purple bands; the inner filaments are short and red.
