The plants are frost-tender (minimum temperature of 5C) but dislike hot, humid conditions. They are often treated like annuals for summer bedding in colder climates. In warmer climates with long hours of daylight they will flower almost all the time. They should be grown in a sunny well light and well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil. Dead-head frequently and fertilized regularly if grown in pots; do not over-water. Plants may be kept through winter in the greenhouse by cutting back in autumn-winter to 12cm and repotting.
Root division or softwood cuttings from spring to autumn.
