Description

Acalypha wilkesiana ‘Macafeeana’ (Painted copperleaf). The broad ovate leaves are toothed and coppery green with bronze and crimson markings and have fine hairs making them soft to the touch. The male flowers are on long fluffy spikes and female flowers on short spikes and are camouflaged against foliage.

Perennial, Evergreen, Shrub

Origin

Vanuatu, Pacific Islands. This cultivar was introduced in 1877.

Interest and use

Grown for its foliage interest. Also used to treat fungal infections of the skin.
