Description

Acalypha wilkesiana f. macrophylla (Painted copperleaf). The leaves are large, ovate-cordate with indented edges. The colours of the foliage are reddish brown with red, white and bronze splashes. The flowers are red and 15-20 cms long and are often hidden by the leaves.

Characteristics

Perennial, Evergreen, Shrub

Origin

Native to Fiji and surrounding islands in the South Pacific. The species was named after Charles Wilkes (1798-1877), commander of the USA exploring expedition in the South Pacific between 1838 and 1842. The name of the Form is a combination of the Greek word 'makros' which means 'big', and “phyllon” which means 'leaf'.
