Description

Aponogeton genus (Water hawthorn). This is a genus of tuberous deciduous aquatic perennials. They are mainly found in streams and lakes. The leaves are oval to narrowly oblong and veined and the sap of the plant is milky. The blooms are spikes of white, pink or purple and heavily scented.

Grown for the floating foliage and often heavily scented flowers.

Cultivation

Frost hardy to frost tender, min 16C. Requires an open, sunny position. Fading foliage needs tidying up in autumn.

Propagate by division in spring or by seed while still fresh.
