Description

Petunia genus. There are about 35 species of half hardy annuals, biennials and shrubby perennials in this genus. They produce dark green rather hairy smooth-edged leaves, with trumpet-shaped flowers in white, purple, red, blue, pink.

Interest and use

Grown for its showy, colourful flowers. Bedding plant, hanging basket, window boxes and containers.

Cultivation

They are frost-tender plants which are grown as annuals, they will need well-drained, fertile soil with a sunny location and will thrive where summers are hot, although they do need shelter from the wind. Dead-head regularly.

Propagation

Propagate by seed sown under glass in early spring.

Pests, diseases or disorders

May suffer from viruses, including cucumber mosaic and tomato spotted wilt, fungal foot rot and potato virus.
