Description

Aquilegia ‘White Star’ (Columbine). This is an Aquilegia with cream-white, upward facing flowers with long spurs held over mounds of divided foliage.

Origin

Northern Hemisphere.

The genus name comes from the Latin word 'aquila' which means 'eagle' and refers to the shape of the petals being said to resemble an eagle's talon. The common name of Columbine comes from the Latin word for 'dove'; 'columba' and refers to the upturned flower being said to resemble five doves.

Interest and use

Grown for their ornamental flowers and graceful leaves. Suitable for borders and containers. Also for cut flowers.
