Description

Acantholimon glumaceum (Prickly thrift). This low-growing, evergreen perennial produces a low mound of rosettes of hard, spiny dark green leaves. In summer you can find spikes of five-petalled, star-shaped pink flowers. This is an ideal plant for a rock garden.

Cultivation

Acantholimon need dry gritty soil to grow well since in the wild they inhabit dry mountain and desert areas, growing on screes and the edges of salt lakes.

Propagation

Propagate by softwood cuttings in late spring. The seed is rarely set in cultivation.
