Description

Photinia genus (Christmas berry). There are about 60 species of evergreen or deciduous shrubs and small trees, they are fast growing and are grown for their brilliant young foliage and autumn colour. The leaves are grown alternately, with flowers which are mostly white and are followed by either red or dark blue berries.

Interest and use

Grown for their foliage and, in the case of deciduous species, for their autumn colour and fruits.

Cultivation

You can plant in sun or partial-shade in fertile, well-drained soil. Make sure you protect from strong winds.

Propagation

You can propagate from semi-ripe cuttings in summer, deciduous species can also be propagated by seed in autumn.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Prone to fireblight, leaf spot and powdery mildew.
