Phragmipedium longifolium (Lady's slipper orchid). This genus consists of about 15-20 species of epiphytic and terrestrial orchids. The leaves are very strappy and long. The flowers are borne singly or in small groups on upright stems they usually have narrow arching petals.

You must plant in loose, very free-draining soil with light shade. In temperate climates, they need to be grown in greenhouses. Can be grown in pots but also on slabs of bark. Weak foliar feeds can be added to the sprays.
You can propagate by dividing immediately after flowering or from seed. You can also use older leafless pseudobulbs which can be removed for replanting, or from new growth which may appear from the bottom of the plant.
