Just found this earth star beneath a conifer. Don't know which species but I've never found one before. Anyone know the species?
Picea genus (Spruce). The conifers will produce seeds which are exposed on the scales of their fruit. They will produce needle-like leaves which are arranged spirally. The cones are pendulous and ripen in their first autumn.
Evergreens, Conifers or Trees
Ornamental fruit, foliage, privacy, wind-break.
You will need to plant in full sun in deep, moist but well-drained, neutral to acid soil. If the conifer produces more than one leader, to maintain the general conical habit remove all but one leader. To restrict the height of the plant, the leader can be cut back.
Propagate seed sown in autumn or spring (but forms selected for leaf colour do not come true). For Evergreen plants, take current growth cuttings in autumn to spring. For deciduous plants, take softwood cuttings in summer. Also, plants can be grafted.
Honey fungus may be a problem; young plants are more susceptible. Green spruce aphid might be a problem. Conifer spinning mite may cause defoliation.
