Pimelea genus (Rice flower). There are about 80 species of woody evergreen shrubs, They will produce terminal flowerheads in white, yellow, pink or purple, they are either tubular and star-shaped. They are frost hardy to frost tender, min 5-7C. They will need full sun with well drained, neutral to acidic soil.
Grown for their flowers and overall appearance. Suitable for coastal conditions.
They grow well in full sun in light, well-drained soil which is enriched with organic matter. You will need to lightly prune after flowering to keep them tidy. You can propagate from seed or cuttings. Needs good winter light and ventilation in northern temperate greenhouses.
Seed in spring or by semi-ripe cuttings in late summer.
Red spider mites are a problem under glass.
