This perennial prefers cool moist soil, but tolerates sunny and dry conditions. It is more of a woodland plant than other acanthuses, and grows well in a sheltered spot. This species should be planted where its rampant growth can be confined.
Seeds need to be sown directly into the garden, as this perennial does not like to be replanted.
