Can anyone recommend an easy to grow, low maintenance evergreen shrub for a half barrel container, ideally that attracts bees, etc?
You will need to grow in fertile, well-drained soil, make sure you keep moist over the summer to maintain the foliage. They will need full sun or partial-shade with a sheltered position. You can propagate from seeds in the autumn or spring, or from tip cuttings in the summer.
Propagate P.dallii by budding in summer, other species by seed in autumn or spring or by semi-ripe cuttings in summer and selected forms by semi-ripe cuttings only in summer.
Pests, diseases or disorders
Prone to red spider mite and scale insects. Also leaf spot and powdery mildew.
