Description

Plumeria genus (Frangipani). There are about 8 species of mainly deciduous shrubs and trees, The trees can reach a height of 9m, but they usually grow much smaller. The flowers are white and appear before the leaves in the spring. It will produce poisonous sap.

Interest and use

Grown for their flowers in summer-autumn.

Cultivation

If your growing in a colder climates, you should grow in a greenhouse, as they are frost tender, with a minimum of 13C and will require full sun and freely draining soil. Stem tips may be cut out to induce branching.

Propagation

You can propagate in early spring from cuttings that have been allowed to dry out for a couple of weeks, or by seed.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Red spider mite may be a nuisance. Has poisonous sap.
