Description

Polygonum aviculare (Knotgrass). The plant is called Knotgrass because of the bulge where the leaf joins the stem, and here it also has small clusters of flowers. There are many species of Knotgrass, and this plant is often found in the wild in Northern Europe. STEM: Upright or low growing ROOT: Fibrous HAIRS: Absent STIPULES: Silvery, joined forming tube around stem. LEAF-STALK: About equal to stipules BRACTS: Insignificant FLOWER STALK: Absent PETALS: 5-lobed perianth joined at base into short tube. STAMENS: 5-8 STIGMA: 2 OVARY: 1,1-celled SEEDS: Not separate
