Description

Potamogeton natans (Broad-leaved pondweed). This species produces long unbranched stems which have both floating and submerged foliage. The submerged leave are small and narrow but the floating leaves are bout 10-15cm long with equally long stems. This plant is often found in the wild in Northern Europe. STEM: Long, submerged, rarely branched. ROOT: Creeping, underground. HAIRS: Absent STIPULES: Present, conspicuous. LEAF-STALK: Jointed and wing-like near top. BRACTS: Absent FLOWER STALK: Absent SEPALS: 4-lobed perianth, rounded with stalk-like base. PETALS: Absent STAMENS: 4, very short. STIGMA: 1 per ovary; style absent. OVARY: 4, 1-celled. SEEDS: 1, not released.
