Potentilla genus (Cinquefoil). There are about 500 or so deciduous shrubs, herbaceous perennials, annuals and biennials in this genus. They will bear clusters of rounded, bright-coloured blooms which are profuse throughout the spring and summer.
Annuals, Perennials or Biennials, Shrubs
Attracts bees. Tall species, such as the shrubs, are useful in borders. Dwarf Potentillas are good for rock gardens and in containers. Suitable for coastal conditions.
They grow in well-drained, fertile soil. They will thrive in full sun in temperate climates.
You can propagate the perennial species by seeds in the autumn or by division or by runners or offsets in spring. Shrubby species may be raised by seed in autumn or by softwood or greenwood cuttings in summer.
