Aristolochia genus (Birthwort). These are evergreen or deciduous, woody-stemmed, twining and scrambling climbers. The leaves are heart shaped, and the flowers are tubular with a swelling at the base with a hood above. They are frost hardy to frost tender, with a min of 10-13C. They will needs well drained soil and partial shade in the summer; water regularly but less when not in full growth. You can propagate by seeds in the spring or by semi-ripe cuttings in the summer. Watch out for red spider mites and whitefly which may become a nuisance.
