Description

Pseudolarix amabilis (Golden larch). This species produces a broad conical crown, the bark is reddish brown and fissured or scaly. The leaves are fine soft and pale green with a bluish undersides, they are arranged in rosettes along slender twigs. The foliage will turn a golden yellow in the cooler months. The flowers appear as catkins and are followed by green cones that will mature to yellow.

Cultivation

You should plant in moist, rich, deep, well-drained, acid soil. They will need shelter from strong winds and abundant light.

Propagation

Propagation is seed sown in autumn or spring (but forms selected for leaf colour do not come true). Evergreen current growth cuttings in autumn to spring. Deciduous softwood cuttings in summer.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Honey fungus may be a problem; young plants are more susceptible.
