Description

Salvia buchananii (Sage). This species is a woody based perennial which will spread by runners. The upright branching stems bear spoon-shaped, finely toothed, dark green, leathery leaves. The flowers are borne in terminal racemes of bright red blooms about 5cm long.

Interest and use

Grown for their tubular, 2-lipped, often brightly coloured flowers and aromatic foliage. Leaves of some species may be used for flavouring foods. Suitable for coastal conditions.
