Description

Senecio vulgaris (Groundsel). This plant is often found in the wild in Northern Europe. STEM: Usually upright, rather succulent, few branches. ROOT: Fibrous. HAIRS: Absent or slightly cottony. STIPULES: Absent LEAF-STALK: Absent or short. BRACTS: Black-tipped around head; none between florets. FLOWER STALK: Absent; short under heads. SEPALS: A ring of hairs. PETALS: 5, tubular, lobes usually equal. STAMENS: 5, joined, tube-like. STIGMA: 1, 2-lobed; style long. OVARY: 1, below petals, 1-celled. SEEDS: 1, not released.
