Description

Sequoia sempervirens (Coast redwood). These are tall trees, with a tree trunk which will grow almost parallel. The bark is red, fibrous and long lasting. The leaves are small aromatic with bright green needles about 1in long.

Cultivation

It will survive in a wide range of climates, They prefer full sun or partial-shade with deep, well-drained soil. You can propagate from seeds or cutting.

Propagation

You can propagate from seed sown in autumn or spring (but forms selected for leaf colour do not come true). Evergreen current growth cuttings can be taken from autumn to spring. Deciduous softwood cuttings in summer.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Honey fungus may be a problem; young plants are more susceptible.
