Description

Spiranthes spiralis (Autumn lady's tresses). This plant is often found in the wild in Northern Europe. STEM: Upright, slender, not leafy. ROOT: Swollen, tapered tubers; few, fleshy roots. HAIRS: Gland-tipped, on upper part of plant. STIPULES: Absent LEAF-STALK: Absent BRACTS: Shorter than flower. FLOWER STALK: Very short. SEPALS: 3, petal-like, oblong, blunt. PETALS: 3; side petals oblong, lower oblong, tip rounded, frilled; spur absent. STAMENS: 1, stalkless. STIGMA: 2; style absent. OVARY: 1, below petals, 1-celled. SEEDS: Numerous, minute, dust-like.
