Description

Symphytum genus (Comfrey). There are about 25-35 species of hairy perennials. They can grow very fast and will become invasive in the garden. The leaves are alternate with flowers that are either pink, blue, white or cream.

N. Africa, W Asia.

Interest and use

Suitable for wild gardens. Use to make liquid manure.

Cultivation

They are fully hardy and they can be easily grown in sun or partial-shade in moist, well-dug soil with added manure.

Propagation

Division in spring or by seed in autumn; usually self-seeds naturally. Propagate cultivators by division only.
