Description

Aucuba genus (Japanese laurel). These are evergreen shrubs from East Asia, They will produce large red berries in the autumn.

Interest and use

Foliage and fruits, this shrub will also attract birds to the garden. Suitable for coastal conditions.

Cultivation

They are fully to frost hardy and will tolerate full sun through to dense shade. Grow them in any but waterlogged soil. To restrict their growth, cut the old shoots back hard in the spring.

Propagation

Propagation is by semi-ripe cuttings in the summer.
