Description

Teucrium scorodonia (Wood sage). This is an upright perennial herb. The leaves are oval-base, heart-shaped, opposite and bluntly toothed. The flowers are spikes of green-yellow, small flowers appearing in mid summer. This plant is often found in the wild in Northern Europe. STEM: Upright, branched, woody at base. ROOT: Creeping underground stem. HAIRS: Short, over most of plant. STIPULES: Absent LEAF-STALK: Shorter than blade. BRACTS: Oval, shorter than flowers. FLOWER STALK: Shorter than flower. SEPALS: 5, joined, with pointed teeth, upper often largest. PETALS: 5, bases joined into narrow tube, lower lobe largest, upper 2 very short. STAMENS: 4, protruding. STIGMA: 2 on long, forked style. OVARY: 1, deeply 4-lobed. SEEDS: 1 per segment, not released.

Cultivation

They are marginally frost hardy and will prefer a light well-drained soil with sunny conditions. You can propagate the shrubs and subshrubs from cuttings in the summer, the perennials are propagated by division in the autumn or from seeds in the spring. They are poisonous.
