Description

Tropaeolum genus (Nasturtium). This is a genus producing annuals, perennials and twining climbers, forming brightly coloured flowers which are single or double and about 5cm across, and bloom in red, orange, yellow, cream.

Interest and use

Grown for their brightly coloured flowers. window boxes, bedding, edging, covering & banks. Suitable for coastal conditions. Some species are edible.

Cultivation

They will grow in fully, frost hardy to frost tender min 5C. Most of the species will prefer sun and well drained soil.

Propagation

You can propagate by seeds, tubers or basal stem cuttings in the spring.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Aphids and caterpillars of cabbage white butterfly and its relatives may cause problems.
