Description

Ulmus genus (Elm). There are about 20 or so species in this genus of trees and shrubs, which are deciduous, and will turn yellow in the autumn. The leaves are usually alternate, with toothed margins. The flowers are small, disc-like fruits carried in clusters.

Grown for their foliage and habit.

Cultivation

They are fully to frost hardy, and will require cool to cold winters, with full sun and deep, well drained, moist, fertile soil.

Propagation

You can propagate from semi-ripe cuttings in the summer or seeds or suckers in the autumn.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Is susceptible to Dutch elm disease, which is quickly fatal, although U.parvifolia and U.pumila appear more resistant than other species and hybrids.
