Description

Vaccinium genus (Cranberry). There are about 450 species of deciduous and evergreen shrubs, which will produce edible berries. The leaves are narrow, bright green and leathery, and are sometimes coppery red when young, with toothed edges. The flowers are small bell-shaped and pale pink, white, purple or red they will appear in late spring or early summer.

Grown for their foliage, autumn colour (on deciduous species) flowers and fruits, often edible.

Cultivation

They are cold tolerant and love the shade. They are fully to frost hardy and will require sun or semi-shade with moist but well drained soil, that is peaty or sandy, acidic soil.

Propagation

You can propagate by division or from semi-ripe cuttings or by seed in autumn.
