Description

Verbena officinalis (Vervain). This plant is often found in the wild in Northern Europe. STEM: Usually several, upright, branched, 4-angled. ROOT: Woody stock. HAIRS: Stiff, on leaves. STIPULES: Absent LEAF-STALK: Stalked or upper stalkless. BRACTS: Small, pointed. FLOWER STALK: Almost absent. SEPALS: 5, joined forming 5-ribbed tube, teeth short. PETALS: 5, bases form tube, lower lobes longest. STAMENS: 4, rarely 2, inside tube. STIGMA: 1, tip swollen, slightly 2-lobed. OVARY: 1, 4-celled. SEEDS: 1 per segment, not released.
