Description

Viburnum dilatatum ‘Catskill’ (Linden viburnum). This is a deciduous, low, spreading shrub bearing sharply toothed, dark green leaves which turn yellow, orange and red in autumn. In late spring and early summer, there are flat-heads of creamy-white flowers, followed by bright red fruit.

Grown for their foliage, autumn colour (in many deciduous species), flowers and, often fruits. Suitable for northern and eastern aspects. Suitable for coastal conditions.

Cultivation

They are moderately frost hardy, Grow them in any well-drained soil in sun or light shade. You can propagate from cuttings in the summer or from seed in autumn.

Propagation

Propagate by simple layering in the autumn, by cuttings (softwood for deciduous species, semi-ripe for evergreens) in summer, hardwood cuttings in the winter or by seed in autumn.

Pests, diseases or disorders

All are prone to honey fungus and leaf spot. Aphids and viburnum beetles may be a problem.
