Description

Viola ‘Magnum Series’ (Violet). These are annuals, perennials and a few subshrubs with as many as 500 species. They are mostly creeping plants which are either deciduous or evergreen; they have slender to thick rhizomes, with kidney or heart-shaped leaves. There are small and showy, bright or deep coloured flowers.

Cultivation

They are fully to half hardy and should be grown in the sun or shade in well drained but moisture retentive soil; a few species prefer acid soil. They will appreciate shelter from the drying winds.

Propagation

Popagate by seed; the annuals sown according to flowering season. Usually the perennials and sub-shrubs are propagated by softwood cuttings in spring or they can be propagated by root division. Species may also be propagated by seed in spring or autumn.
