Description

Viola odorata (Papma violet). This is a spreading, rhizomatous perennial which grows about 8cm tall. The leaves are dark green, pointed and kidney-shaped with shallowly toothed edges. The flowers have flat-faces in violet, white or red and will appear from late winter through early spring.

Cultivation

They are fully to half hardy and should be grown in the sun or shade in well drained but moisture retentive soil; a few species prefer acid soil. They will appreciate shelter from the drying winds.

Sow seeds in autumn or spring or by division of clumps in autumn.
