Description

Watsonia borbonica (Bugle lily). This species is a clump forming perennial. The leaves are narrowly sword-shaped and about 75cm. The flowers are borne in mid summer with bright pink blooms with spreading lobes.

Cultivation

Plant in the autumn about 10-15cms deep, you will need to protect with bracken, loose peat or similar during first winter, if frost is expected. Feed with slow-acting fertilizer such as bonemeal in the summer. The corms are best left undisturbed to form clumps before the frosts. They are half hardy and will require an open, sunny position with light, well drained soil.

Propagation

Propagate by seed in autumn or division of clumps.
