Would it be okay to cut back some of my Salvia 'Hot lips' now as it's towering over many other plants and becoming quite straggly?
Some species will tolerate only light frosts, but some of the perennials are more frost-hardy. They will grow well when planted in full sun in well drained light soil with adequate watering in the summer. Cut back in spring.
Propagate shrubs and sub-shrubs by softwood, semi-ripe or basal cuttings in mid-summer. Sow seed of half hardy annuals under glass in early spring and of fully hardy species outdoors in mid-spring. You can propagate perennials by division in the spring.
