Description

Hoodia pilifera. A leafless fat-stemmed succulent up to 50-80 cm, with fleshy, ribbed and thorny stems arising from a common base. It will form large groups up to 2m in diameter.

H. pilifera takes 5 years to mature before producing saucer-shaped flowers that are reddish green externally and purple to brown/black inside. The flowers smell of decaying flesh to attract flies/blow flies.
