Description

Bergenia × schmidtii (Elephant's ear). This species is a very popular and vigorous grower with large dull green rounded leaves. The flowers are produced in late winter and early spring.

Cultivation

They are fully to frost hardy and will tolerate sun or shade in any well drained soil, but the leaf colour is best on poor soil and in full sun.

Propagation

Propagation is by division in the spring after flowering.

Dry brown rot, slugs, snails and caterpillars. Vine weevil and leaf spot may be a problem.
