Berkheya genus (South African thistle). There are about 75 species of summer-flowering perennials. The leaves are produced in basal rosettes, with white hairs on the underside. The flowers are rounded and white, yellow, or purple in colour.

They are frost to half hardy; most species will grow against a south or west facing wall. They will require full sun and fertile, well drained soil. Protect from winter wet.
Propagation is by division in the spring or by seeds in the autumn.
