Description

Acer palmatum var. matsumurae (Japanese maple). This is a large tree with a broad and rounded canopy of layered branches which can grow up to 9 meters tall in the wild. It has long-lobed mid green leaves in summer. Leaves turn a bright crimson red in the autumn.

Cultivation

Leaf eating caterpillars or aphids sometimes infest plants. Also prone to scale insects, tar spot, Verticillium wilt, leaf scorch and honey fungus.
