Description

Acer palmatum ‘Yasemin’ (Japanese maple). This vigorous small tree has an elegant, open-branched, upward curving habit and it thought to be a cross between A. palmatum and A. shirasawanum. It has large deeply incised leaves which are slightly dissected. Foliage starts off bronze in the spring, turns olive green in the summer and finally burgundy to red in the autumn

Discovered by Cor van Geldern at Firma C. Esveld in Holland and named after his daughter Mirte Yasemin.

Cultivation

It will prefer warmer climates than most other maples. It will need shade and shelter or the leaves may shrivel.

Species are propagated by seed, or by grafting or simple layering in late winter or early spring, or by budding in summer.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Leaf eating caterpillars or aphids sometimes infest plants. Also prone to scale insects, tar spot, Verticillium wilt, leaf scorch and honey fungus.
