Description

Acer platanoides (Norway maple). This is a tall tree which is rather rich-looking; the summer foliage will turn a golden yellow in the autumn. The leaves are lobed and about 15cms wide. The yellow to yellow-green flowers are small and appear just before the leaves in the spring.

Cultivation

This maple has a shallow root system and therefore should not be planted into the lawn as it will take all the moisture and nutrients out from the soil.

Propagation

Species are propagated by seed, or by grafting or simple layering in late winter or early spring, or by budding in summer.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Leaf eating caterpillars or aphids sometimes infest plants. Also prone to scale insects, tar spot, Verticillium wilt, leaf scorch and honey fungus.
