Description

Acer platanoides ‘Crimson King’ (Purple Norway Maple). This is a vigorous, spreading tree with shiny, palmate, dark red to burgundy foliage which turns a darker burgundy as it matures and then orange before falling in the autumn. Small, red-tinged yellow flowers appear in mid spring.

Cultivation

This maple has a shallow root system and therefore should not be planted into the lawn as it will take all the moisture and nutrients out from the soil.

Leaf eating caterpillars or aphids sometimes infest plants. Also prone to scale insects, tar spot, Verticillium wilt, leaf scorch and honey fungus.
