Description

Acer pseudoplatanus (Sycamore maple). The leaves of this tree are thick, and grow up to 16 cm wide, cordate at their bases and coarsely serrate-crenate in shape. They are 5-lobed and deeply cut, and they are a dark green above and a lighter green on their undersides. This species grows up to 40m, with a broad crown, pale grey bark which peels in flakes and smooth branches. The leaves turn golden to brown in the autumn. Flowers are green-yellow and contrast with the early reddish orange foliage as it first emerges.

Origin

Europe and S. W. Asia
