Bromelia genus. In this genus there are about 50 species of terrestrial evergreen, rosette-forming perennials which are native to central America. They will produce upright spikes of red and white flowers which grow from the centre of the rosettes.
Grown for their overall appearance.
They are frost tender, min 5-7C, and will need full light and well drained soil. Make sure you water moderately in the summer and sparingly at other times.
Propagation is by suckers or seeds in the spring.
