Callistephus genus (China aster). This genus has one species of annual, and in the summer it will produce blooms of blue, red, purple or white-pink, single or double flower heads.
They are half hardy and will require a sunny position or a sheltered position with fertile well drained soil. The tall cultivars will need support and also remember to dead-head the blooms as this will help with flowering.
You can propagate by seeds sown under glass in the spring, and the seeds may also be sown outdoors in mid-spring.
Wilt disease, virus diseases, foot rot, root rot and aphids may all be troublesome.
