Description

Abies koreana (Korean fir). The compact size of this tree makes it ideal for the smaller garden. It will produce small bluish cones when it is only 1m high. The needles are rather crowded, short and broad with notched tips they have a wide blue band on the undersides.

Cultivation

Grow them in moist fertile well-drained soil.

Propagation

Abies seed can be sown in autumn or spring (but forms selected for leaf colour do not come true). Evergreen current growth cuttings in autumn to spring. Deciduous softwood cuttings in summer.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Honey fungus may be a problem, although this genus is fairly resistant. Conifer spinning mite may cause defoliation. Prone to adelgids.
