Description

Canna × generalis (Indian shot plant). This is an upright, ornamental perennial bulb it will bear large striking flowers which will bloom in a variety of colours and also variable foliage from dark to pale green, to a bronzy, red or purple ornamental foliage. They will grow well in warm climates and for this reason they are usually grown in the coastal regions of the south and west. The seeds will need to be nicked or filed and then soaked for 48 hours prior to sowing them.

Cultivation

They are frost tender, min 10-15C and will require a warm, sunny position and humus-rich moist soil. If grown under glass or for summer bedding, encourage into growth in spring at 16C and store rhizomes in slightly damp soil or peat in winter.
