Capsicum genus (Pepper). These are evergreen shrubs, sub-shrubs and short-lived perennials which are usually grown as annuals. There are about 10 species. The leaves are smooth and green. The flowers are small and white; they will grow singly or in small groups.

Grown for the edible fruits that some species produce (e.g. sweet peppers), others for small ornamental fruit.
They are frost tender, min 4C. You should grow them in a sunny position in fertile, well drained soil. You will need to spray the flowers with water; this will encourage the fruits to set.
Propagation is by seeds sown under glass in the spring.
Red spider mite may be troublesome.
